John is a corporate finance and transactions lawyer with over 40 years’ experience. His in-depth exposure to the legal aspects of finance began in the 1980s with 3i plc, where he was part of the team that pioneered the MBO in the UK using innovative debt and equity combinations. He subsequently broadened his role and spent a number of years as General Counsel (GC) of quoted companies, including GC at TNS plc during the period of its decade-long overseas expansion in the 1990s, before it was absorbed by WPP plc. Thereafter he returned to private practice and worked on mergers, acquisitions, and financings in a number of sectors. He worked with Gary Wilkinson from 2010 onwards on matters related to Pensions Bank Limited and then became the first GC of Cambridge & Counties Bank shortly after it was granted a banking licence in 2012.
