At Redwood Bank, our people are firmly at the heart of everything we do. We understand that when you, our customers, work with us, you want and expect a personal relationship to enable quick decision making and flexible solutions. This is why we’ve taken some time out to speak to the people that power Redwood Bank.
James Monahan, Banking Operations Officer
James started with Redwood Bank in August 2018 and is a Banking Operations Officer. He has a keen interest in law and says that if he hadn’t gone into banking, he would probably have been studying for his Masters, or working in a law firm. Fortunately for Redwood, he chose a different path.
Tell us more about your role at Redwood
I am part of a team where I feel valued for my contributions. It really does feel like I’m making a difference, which is in line with the feedback from our customers. Something I hear a lot is that we succeed in making their experience straightforward and simple. We speak plainly and there’s no hiding behind any jargon.
What do you know now that you didn’t two years ago?
Everything! I was a complete banking novice before I joined Redwood.
Challenger vs High Street banks – is there a place for both?
Yes! Challenger banks are bringing something different to the market and delivering greater choice and flexibility to customers. I can see Redwood continue to expand the types of products we offer and branch into newer avenues especially regarding lending and the deals we can accommodate.
What advice would you give to someone starting off in banking?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions to things you don’t know and get involved with as much as possible.
And finally, please tell us something we don’t know?
I have been involved in martial arts since I was a child. The main highlights are that I achieved my black belt in one discipline and represented my university and my county in several judo competitions.
