As Redwood Bank’s Compliance Manager, Calantha loves the interaction she has with her colleagues, especially the mutual respect. And she believes there is a great team spirit at work.
Could you describe an average day at Redwood Bank?
My day ranges from dealing with colleagues’ queries to submitting reports to the regulator … and everything in between. No two days are ever the same and I really enjoy that.
Tell us about how you came to be in this role?
I’ve worked in financial services for as long as I can remember and I wanted my next opportunity in compliance to be for an organisation that is both inclusive and progressive in terms of its values and ethics. When I heard about this role, I felt it was ideal and decided to apply.
What is your favourite part of the role?
It has to be my interaction with colleagues. We have such a great team here; it’s a pleasure to come to work. Everyone is friendly and supportive of each other, they have a great sense of humour and there is mutual respect all round.
What three skills you do think you need in your role?
The ability to keep an open mind and remain objective, being approachable and, most importantly, having lots of patience!
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Dealing with a new query or issue for the first time. You think you’ve seen or heard it all, then you realise that you haven’t.
Why would you recommend working at Redwood Bank?
Because of its culture, good team spirit and great work/life balance. Senior management encourages employee engagement and listens to everyone’s views. The bank offers great incentives and training opportunities to help individuals develop their skills and knowledge. Redwood Bank is the only employer I’ve worked for where the CEO makes the time to meet and get to know individual employees and potential employees. This sets the tone of the culture and makes employees feel valued as individuals and part of the Redwood family.
What was the last film you watched?
The last film I watched was Thunder Force. I would describe it as a slapstick comedy, very silly, yet funny, and makes you feel good.
If you could meet any famous person, who would it be?
Perhaps Margaret Thatcher, if she were still alive.
If you could go back into any period of time, which year would you choose and why?
It would have to be the mid 80s, simply because of the music and fashion.
