Our People | Meet Callum Finnigan

A dedicated Liverpool supporter, Callum joined Redwood Bank in 2019 and is now Associate Business Development Manager. He enjoys exercising in the morning before heading to work to provide excellent customer service to the Bank’s customers. An extremely passionate member of the team, Callum likes socialising with his friends and is a proud “dad” to his dog ‘Snoop’.

Challengers vs high street banks – is there a place for both?

There is definitely space for both because they provide customers with different options. During my career, I have found that customers tend to be involved with several lenders, so I think ‘more the merrier’.

If you weren’t doing this, you’d be…

A successful sportsman.

On a more serious note, I have been working in the finance industry ever since I left school, so I can’t imagine taking a different career path because banking is all I know.

What’s one thing you now know about banking that you didn’t three years ago?

How important it is to build a strong relationship with the customer. Before joining the Redwood family, I held an operational role at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), and I was unaware of the importance of forming secure relationships with customers. Now that I am in a customer-facing role, I have learned that regular communication with both external colleagues and other departments in the Bank is key for achieving the best outcome for the customer.

What’s the best piece of advice you have received in the past three years?

Tomorrow is never promised, so enjoy today.

Redwood is now four years old – what’s the one standout piece of feedback you have received from a customer in that time?

Someone once said to me: “It is amazing that you were able to provide a quality service during the pandemic when others were unable to assist.”

This feedback meant a lot because it shows that our customers appreciated that we remained open and provided the same level of service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in banking?

To get into the banking industry as soon as possible. I did an apprenticeship at the RBS, so I was getting my banking qualifications whilst also gaining experience of working in the industry. I thought learning on the job was very beneficial and it put me in a good position once I was officially qualified.

What has been your proudest achievement with Redwood to date?

My promotion from a Business Development Officer to an Associate Business Development Manager. I am now working towards becoming a Business Development Manager.

What three people, dead or alive, would you invite to your ultimate dinner party?

Tyson Fury, Mike Tyson and Jurgen Klopp. My three sporting icons.
