Our People | Meet Jenna Hill

As Redwood Bank’s Head of Operations, Jenna loves all the challenges that come with the job. A huge Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson fan, Jenna tells us why supporting the next generation of inspiring bankers is important and why Tokyo is her favourite destination…

Describe your average day…
I don’t have an average day, that’s what I love about my role. I like to check in with my teams in the morning and see what meetings I have. That allows me to then plan the rest of my day. I could be doing anything from writing papers, reading committee packs, looking at ways we can enhance the customer journey – basically anything that lands on my desk. 

Tell us how you came to be in this role?
I’ve worked in operations for quite a while now and the previous company I worked for were unfortunately winding down. I wanted another bank that was young, ambitious and looked after its people, I found that in Redwood.

What’s your favourite part of the job?
Developing people. I have had the opportunity to mentor individuals and help them to identify their next career move. I’ve built lifelong relationships with many of them and been fortunate to watch them progress in their careers, while still being able to support them whenever they need it. I feel it is just as important to help the next generation looking to forge a career in banking, I have had some fantastic people support me in my career and continue to do so. 

What three skills you do think you need in your role?
The ability to take a holistic view, communicating at all levels and identifying continuous improvement opportunities. 

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Dealing with a variety of things, you must be able to constantly adapt and evolve to the situation at hand. Some days it can be tiring, but I absolutely love it.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I am a heavy metal/grunge fan so I try to go to gigs when I can (although most of my favourite bands are older now and not touring as much). I am also a massive geek - I love gaming and anime, and my favourite place to travel to is Tokyo.

If you could meet any famous person, who would it be?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! I was a massive wrestling fan when I was younger thanks to my brothers, and I have been a huge fan of his ever since.
