Our People | Meet Phil Mosley

As Redwood’s Customer Experience Officer, Phil Mosley is the voice of the customer within the Bank. Being an effective communicator and a team player are just some of the skills that make Phil succeed in his role.

Describe an average day in your role at Redwood Bank, and what’s your favourite part of the job?

Redwood is all about its people, and my role is to take customer feedback, both positive and negative, and turn them into action plans for improvement. As the voice of the customer internally, I’m able to instigate change and development. I particularly enjoy turning a customer’s negative feedback into a positive through effective communication and a proactive desire to help.

What made you join Redwood?

I think it’s important to take opportunities that spark interest, passion and that will utilise and challenge your core skills – and that’s exactly what this role offered. Now that I’ve joined, working here is like being part of a sports team – every person utilises their expertise and skills to work together, creating the best possible service for our customers, and growing in the process.

What are three skills do you think you need in your role?

Having a logical and flexible approach to following processes to accommodate new technological opportunities.
Being a good communicator – from handling customer feedback, to communicating customer data across the business, it’s crucial to be personable, perceptive and engaging in all interactions.
An effective use of data to make informed decision for the benefit of the customer and the business.

What’s your biggest achievement so far?

Due to the disastrous impact of COVID on the aviation industry, I was made redundant pretty early on. I’m proud that I was able to get a role at Redwood Bank, during what was an extremely competitive time for recruitment opportunities.

Why would you recommend working at Redwood?

The culture at Redwood is one where you work hard, make a difference, feel supported and be celebrated.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

More or less, any sport. I used to be a half decent footballer, swimmer, badminton and volleyball player. My age has generally left me watching others play, although you can find me on the golf course now and again.
I’m passionate about growing produce I can eat – the difference in taste of home-grown vs supermarket produce makes all the hard work of gardening worthwhile.
I also really enjoy comedy. I have recently been to watch the live recording of Would I lie to you, Generation Teams and off soon to see Jason Manford. My ideal evening is one where both your face and sides ache from laughter. That, or walking my chocolate Labrador, Rolo.

If you could meet any famous person, who would it be?

Derek Randall (cricket), Peter Kay (comedy), George Best and Gary Mabbutt (football), JFK (charismatic leader), Neil Armstrong (astronaut) – what a dinner party that would be!

If you could go back to any period of time, when would it be and why?

The late 1980’s / early 1990s, when my football team Notts County were in the top division, and I held a season ticket.
